Protecting Our Environment

Hear Al talk about standing up to Enbridge Corporation and more about protecting our environment below.

Al has a long history of passionately protecting our environment from corporate negligence, preserving our wetlands and streams, and implementing renewable energy throughout Dane County for future generations to thrive in. Some action he has already taken and promises to fight for includes:

Climate

Climate Change.  Al knows that climate change is real and the situation is dire. He upports efforts to reduce use of fossil fuels by implementing renewable energy and protect our lakes from runoff through development of manure digesters.

Parkland. Al understands that preserving open park-space and wetlands is essential to maintain a high quality of life in Dane County. Al advocates for efforts to preserve open space and wetlands like the Sugar River corridor near Paoli and more.

Native plants. Al has planted native plants and created a rain garden, in part with the help of the Plant Dane.

Land Use and Zoning

Enbridge Corporation. Al stood up to the Enbridge Corporation against their tar sands pipeline, which caused disastrous oil spills in Kalamazoo Michigan causing $2.1 billion dollars in damages. When they came to Madison seeking a permit to expand their pipeline, Al led an effort to impose insurance requirements on the project so that Dane County would have full financial protection.

Comprehensive Plan. Al’s work on the Comprehensive Plan for sustainability, public health, and equity helps preserve open space and protect our agricultural economy.

Zoning Committee. Al applies his legal education to ensure that the committee will have adequate legal authority over dividing municipal land for new businesses and more, ensuring Dane County citizens are protected.
